Goodbye April … Why hello May!!

Once again, this month has LITERALLY flown right on by!!! I can’t believe April is over and Miss Teen USA is two months away!!! I started this month by speaking at Miss Fayetteville’s Pageant Workshop. I spoke to girls who were interested in pageantry about my pageant experience. I spoke about how awesome being an RPM girl is, how incredible the Miss Universe Organization is and how proud I am to be representing my hometown at a national level!!! It was great being in my hometown knowing that I was surrounded by so many people who love and support me!

A little further on into the month I was able to mark yet another thing off of the list of goals I made as Miss North Carolina Teen USA. When I was crowned I made a list with thirty goals on it and being in the Azalea Festival Parade in Wilmington, NC was one of them. The parade was amazing even though it was a little bit chilly. There were so many people around and George Elliott of WWAY NEWS even chose me to do a live interview with him during the parade. I had a blast meeting new people, seeing old friends and HOLDING A SNAKE!!! Ahhh it was HUGE! The entire parade was fabulous and I am so happy I was able to attend!

The same day of the Azalea Festival I headed back home to Fayetteville!! As a former Junior Miss Fayetteville Dogwood Festival, I never miss the Fayetteville Dogwood pageant. I volunteer for Mrs. Shirley, (the pageant director), every year and this year was no different. I signed visiting queens in and during the show I ran like crazy backstage trying to make sure all the contestants were ready and the visiting queens were lined up for the stage. It is always fun for me to help with pageants. The little girls were adorable and the big girls were so gorgeous! I’m glad I was able to attend the Dogwood Festival pageant again this year!

I also attended the Restore Warehouse Recycled Art show this year. Mr. Bill McMillan was so kind to invite me once again to a huge event in Fayetteville. I voted on my favorite art, drew names for raffles and visited with tons of people who came out to support the Restore Warehouse. There was so much local support at Restore and this event just grows more and more each year. I loved every second of it and I am so grateful that Mr. Bill asked me to come back this year.

My final appearance for this month was being a special guest and emcee for the UNC-Pembroke Theta Xi Fraternity’s fashion show!!! The show was awesome and I got show some greek love by representing my fraternity Zeta Tau Alpha!! It was an awesome experience and the models were great!!! The show exceeded all expectation that I had and really brought our student body together. A portion of the proceeds from this fashion show, “7-The Show” went to the MS Foundation, which is the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Everyone had a blast and we enjoyed raising money for an awesome cause.

As May begins I would like to go ahead and say HAPPY MOTHERS DAY to all of the fabulous moms out there!! This month not only do I turn NINETEEN, but I am so excited because I know it is going to be incredible just like the past five months have been! I will be hosting a Best Buddies Skate party on May 14, 2011 and a “HAUTE” BUDDIES SPRING FASHION EXTRAORDINAIRE on May 15, 2011 to raise money for the Best Buddies Organization. Hola everyone,

Boy oh boy does time fly when you are having the TIME OF YOUR LIFE!?! March is already gone and I can’t even believe it! This was a super busy month filled some amazing memories!!! It’s been so busy that now I really need to update my blog!!! The beginning of the month started with one of the coolest opportunities I have ever been a part of! National R-Word day was March 2, 2011! I had flyers posted all over my hometown and my campus(UNCP). I pledged to never say the R-Word and was proud to promote something that I have always felt strongly about!!! I believe in respecting everyone, no matter what challenged they may have in their lives. It was such an honor to work with the Special Olympics of NC and this organization has such a special place in my heart.

Then I was able to model Fashions by Reign Fine Apparel on NBC’s Charlotte Today Show!! Can we say AWESOME!!! Big shout out to Mrs. Jaime Converse Estrada at Reign Fine Apparel for inviting me to model her GORGEOUS red couture gown! I spent my spring break working and tutoring at Highland Presbyterian Church’s after school program! I told them they could have a treat if they did well and of course… they wanted their treat to be putting stickers all over my face! I worked it!!! I volunteered at Operation In as much, where many people in my community came together and fed the homeless breakfast and lunch. Operation Inasmuch in christian based and provides the homeless with showers, computer skills classes and a GED course! I’m definitely going to be volunteering their way more often! I was also asked to be a guest speaker at the NC Youth Legislative Assembly banquet. I spoke to them about teamwork, determination and leadership. My focus was on public service and congratulating them on being a fantastic generation full of promise. I sure am glad that I am a part of their generation as well!

This month I was also spoiled at the Isabella Grape boutique in Wilmington, NC. They gave me a wardrobe allowance and I found some gorgeous cocktail dresses to wear in the Bahamas for Miss Teen USA and in Las Vegas for Miss USA! Mrs. Connie and Mr. Keith are fabulous to work with and it was such a privilege to be dressed by them! What a great sponsor for the USA system! I visited the 1st Ranger Battalion in Savannah, GA where my dad worked 15 years ago and my fraternity, Zeta Tau Alpha, held our annual Big Man on Campus pageant, raising money for breast cancer research! We raised over three hundred dollars and that pageant was HILARIOUS!! Boys never really grow up do they??? Hahaha The guys worked their stuff on stage and made for a great show!!

My brothers and I also attended an event full of history near the end of March with the E.E. Smith Varsity baseball team. We all went to the SwamDogs baseball field to meet with former Negro League Baseball players and hear stories from the good ole’ days! What an honor it was meeting such hard working and deserving men! In my house, baseball is life and I love the game. So to see men that went through such struggle and came out as successful as they did was very inspiring! That same weekend I taught a workshop at the Student Government Association State Convention, hosted by Terry Sanford High School … Go Bulldogs!, on how to run a pageant. Pageants are great fundraisers in High School and since I still help my Alma Mater put the Mr. FTS pageant together, they asked me to teach the class. It was so much fun and a great refresher for Terry Sanford because their Mr. FTS pageant was held this month. I volunteered for them by running everything with the judges and entertain the audience by singing one of my favorite songs, “El Shaddai”.

I am happy that I am able to stay busy and travel across my state!! I am a proud Carolina girl and it is such a blessing to be able to do so many different things and meet so many different people at each event I attend. March was busy and April will be no different! I can’t wait to share more of my experiences as Miss North Carolina Teen USA 2011 with all of you!

Valentines Weekend!!!!

I hope everyone enjoy their Valentines Day! I know I did! I woke up Monday morning for a 5 am workout and when I got home at 6:30 am I got right to work! Since I had already made my little brothers lunch the night before, I immediately went to baking heart-shaped cakes. My mom woke up and smelled the delicious aroma and said “Nessa can I have my slice now!” That made me so happy!!!! That afternoon my three year old brother and I had our own little picnic! It finally felt so great outside and I had a blast with my little baby valentine!

Before my lovely Valentines Day I had a couple of really fantastic appearances. Saturday I was asked to judge the Mr. Jack Britt High School pageant. That was HILARIOUS!!! Boys are so funny when they are in pageants and they had a blast too!!! I even sported some JBHS Purple and Gold …. it’s the least I could do since my alma mater, FTS, gave them a pretty rough basketball game the night before!!! I loved my divalicious dress and I’m so glad I got to be a part of these boys first pageant experience!!!!

On Sunday my little brothers, my dad and I attended the Valentines for Veterans concert in Raleigh, NC! Brittany York (Miss NC USA) and I spoke with so many wonderful veterans and signed autographs for kids and adults of all ages. It’s a great honor for me to personally thank the men and woman of our country for making the ultimate sacrifice. Little Anthony and The Imperials performed for the concert and I am actually a new fan of theirs. Their music was great and they were entertaining throughout the entire concert. I am so thankful for being included in this event! Thank you again to our veterans and our active duty soldiers for fighting for our freedom! You are all always in our prayers!

Daddy’s little girl <3

WOW!!! This weekend was soooo action packed!!!! Can we say ROADTRIP!!!!!!!!! lol!

Friday my family (Mom, Dad and my baby brother Jacob) and I headed out to Matthews, NC. We had never even heard of this town but it was booming with business!!! There was a car lot that dad and I passed that was HUGEEE!!!!!! I’m pretty sure there were more cars than people in the town. We arrived at around 4 pm and I immediately started getting ready for the SONC Ice Skating banquet at 6 pm. I got to the banquet and welcomed all the athletes to the games! Then we started getting our boogie on!!!! I danced with all the athletes and loved every single bit of it!!!! I sat with the sweetest family for dinner and made soooo many new friends. I even have my own very special little buddy Terrence. Terrence danced with me about five times at the banquet and he was just sooo adorable!!!! The dance ended and everyone went back to the host hotel, Comfort Inn. That night I got everything ready for the competition the next day, studies some history notes and headed to bed with baby Jake Jake.

Saturday morning the athletes were competing for their Winter Games bright and early! I couldn’t miss it so I got up and ready reaallllyyy quick!!! I watched all of the competition and cheered on all of my new friends! Everyone was so amazing and they absolutely surpassed all expectations! I was sad when I had to leave but I know that all my friends had a great time and went home proud of their performances.

Right after I left the SONC Winter Games, my family and I headed to Raleigh for the Father Daughter Dance that I had been invited to. My mom got me a new pink dress that was absolutely gorgeous just for the event and my daddy went as my date! He looked so spiffy in his black suit and I was definitely proud to be his baby girl! Dad and I showed up at the Marbles Museum, up steps that led to a Red Carpet and a photographer. This happened for every little girl and their daddy that came to this event. This museum was unbelievable and the smiles on those little girl’s faces were great! You could tell that all of the fathers were so happy to see their kids so joyful! It’s always great to see the pride fathers have for their daughters just glowing through them. I know I was so proud to see my daddy and know how special he is to me. My daddy is my everything and I am just so blessed to have such a strong family. I have had so many opportunities to be a part of people’s lives in such positive ways and this event is one I am so proud to have been a part of. Mr. Joel Wiggins, the man who put this whole event together, set up an entire section where I was able to take pictures with the girls and sign autographs! It was my pleasure to be able to meet so many sweet girls! As I was speaking to one of the girls she said to me ” I can’t believe I’m meeting Miss NC Teen!” … I almost cried! These kids look up to me and are so excited to meet me! They think that it is so special to meet a princess but really I am the lucky one. I’ve wanted all my life to be the girl who little kids can look up to and be proud of! I had a fabulous night in Raleigh!!!!

I am so blessed in so many different ways and I can’t thank the Lord enough for all the things he has done for me! I am honored to work with the Special Olympics, to be someone little kids can look up to and super proud to be daddy’s little girl!!!

Hey everyone!,

So …. I have been keeping everyone who is interested updated with my events this year through Facebook and Twitter! They are both sooo great and I have to admit I am pretty much addicted to them now lol! However, I wanted to have a place where I could share my thoughts and experiences more thouroughly and I’ve always LOVED blogging. I plan on journaling my year through this site and welcoming everyone into “A day in the life of Miss NC Teen USA”, especially those interested in competing at any level!!! This has been a blessing and product of hard work from my community, family and myself!!!
